Suicidal scene from Brother by Takeshi Kitano

One of my favorite and best scenes from "Brother", A film by Takeshi Kitano, as you know, the sophiscated and absolutely fabulous film maker.

This scene is about the suicidal sacrifice, expressing the Tokko (特攻、Suicidal Attack by especially old Japanese), by Kato(Susumu Terajima) the member of Yakuza, for his boss Yamamoto(Beat Takeshi) as big brother "Aniki". I do not think that Tokko is laudable and hope that it will never happen again in Japan as the time of WW2, however this scene is shocking but intruging.

Terajima performed this suicidal scene by pistol. He really impressed when he read the scripts..."Is this true that Mr.Kitano give this fantastic scene?? I completely...." He acted this scene by utilizing his whole spirits for that with relaxing. Of course, his most favorite scene from Brother is...as you know.

By the way, including this scene...the guns which were used in this movie is...real ones, not replicas or fake ones except some scenes by using rubber ones for hitting actors to protect them from any injuries.

The reason is...not pursuiting the reality for violent scenes, but taking consideration of costs for them..."Replicas and model ones are expensive than real one..." by Masayuki Mori the producer in the interview.

Despite his violent and gunnery movies, Kitano really and completely "abhors" the weapon which can kill people...for instance, of course guns, pistols, swords including some Japanese Katana...he do not want or do loathe to touch or grab them as lethal tools for human.

In this movie, Kitano used some real guns as actor "Beat Takeshi", seemingly without any refusal as you see, even hiding his abhorrence. However, he actually...or extremely feel so uncomfortable and hatred to use them, even expressing the repulsion for producer "I hate to use it, I do not feel comfortable so much...not good" again and again.

I really surprised that Kitano hates the real and actual lethal paraphernalia and the true matters about real guns and replicated ones...the hidden things about them in USA.

Anyway, Brother is one of my best movies. Still I'm watching this movie...so many times, again and again.

" I love you Aniki, wherever I am...!"
