The making of Sonatine...Paper Sumo scene.
Sonatine...the silent violent movie directed by...as you recognized,
Takeshi Kitano...as comedian Beat Takeshi in Japan, and
as eminent and artistic filmmaker "Takeshi Kitano" worldwide...
By the way, Kitano didn't see and check the acts by actors...so much
on the filming...
As you can see some filming upon the video on 2:30,
his eyes just closed or looks shutting down behind the sunglasses
...when some actors are performing in the filming...
One of casts in Sonatine, Mr.Tetsu Watanabe...veteran actor
acting Yakuza executive "Kamiji in Okinawa" said...
"I was so nervous and anxious for
Mr.Kitano...that he didn't see the performance and acts of me...
even I thought he hated me...because of his uninterested attitude
for my performance. I was so scared..."
After taking some scenes consequently...he noticed that Kitano was
just so shy and demure for actors and staffs...just forgo the checking so much
and trust them...as professional actors, thus his attitude represented his shy
and reticent personality.
The Paper Sumo scenes are so...intractable and difficult to perform for
actors...especially Susumu Terajima and Masanobu Katsumura...
both were playing Sumo as paper sumo wrestlers...
Only these sumo scenes were rehearsed in Tokyo...with Kitano and
his apprentice Taka Guadalcanal(he wasn't in Sonatine but he is
professional for comedy and those Sumo performance)
Terajima was laughing and thought so facetious for Sumo scenes by them.
However...with his partner Katsumura, they couldn't move like them or
master the scenes...using tense muscles for immovable bodied
characters...
In the finale of this video, Kitano said...
"I think it is the same that shooting or filming
of movie and TV program is...even the hue and
perspective drawing are different..."
